(I promise the above gif is the only One Direction thing on here.)

Otherwise, expect a lot of Radiohead, occasionally some of the Strokes, Björk, the Kills, the White Stripes, Jake Bugg, and the odd mental breakdown.

Ways to Cheer Yourself Up With Radiohead

  • A little while ago, Thom DJ’ed at an L.A. club. He went out onto the floor and danced by himself without any inhibitions. Do the same.
  • Push away those bad feelings by immersing yourself in their music. A challenge: Starting at night, listen to every Radiohead album in order of release. Do nothing too distracting from the music. Write about the experience on Tumblr. Do it with other fans. By “Jigsaw” I was nearly delirious!
  • Make yourself a rice shaker. Shake that thing and get your body into it like Ed and Colin during “Reckoner.”
  • Meditate to “Treefingers” until you feel peaceful again.
  • Read this, a sample from the Radiohead fandom’s own trashy romance aisle. Its utter absurdity and terrible writing will make you laugh. (It’s G-rated, you have my word!)

More Cheer-Up lists.

Ways to Cheer Yourself Up With Radiohead

Your semiweekly Radiohead cheer-up list. I’m grateful for the enthusiasm you Radiohead fans have shown for these so far. It’s been six months, and I’ve still got more coming!

  • Throw a makeshift silent disco. It’s a dance party where everyone brings their own iPods, and grooves to their own music with their earphones in. No big speakers are actually there to blast awful Lil Wayne music into the room. And it won’t bother your neighbours! You’ll finally get to dance to “I Might Be Wrong” and all other songs you love.

  • Stencil a Radiohead t-shirt for yourself. It’s easy, as long as you choose the right photo. Fellow Radiohead enthusiast David was brilliant enough to make a copy of Jonny’s “conspirator” shirt. Look how meticulous it is!

  • If you’ve made New Year’s resolutions, or just in need something to perk you up, pick energetic Radiohead songs to motivate you. “15 Step” and “Jigsaw Falling Into Place” seem like appropriate choices to me. Play them LOUD.

  • Take a string and hang it above your headboard or right across the ceiling of your room. Using clothespins, attach liner notes and other Radiohead artwork to it.
  • Amuse yourself by naming new pets or objects after members of the band. I’m talking about ridiculous names. Edward O’Kitty, y/y?

Here is another list, as promised. Others are here. I’m really glad there are people out there who like these ideas, so thank you for reading and being a Radiohead crazy with me. :)
Look for Radiohead books at your local library – you might come across something obscure. I live in a small city, yet they had the little-known book “Radiohead: In Their Own Words” on the shelf!
If you’re the artistic type, make an inspiration board. Print out Radiohead artwork, lyrics, photos of the members in the studio, etc, and pin them onto a cork board. Put up whatever else gets your creative juices flowing.
Mix an alcoholic beverage of your own invention, using a song title as the main inspiration. Come on, the “High and Dry” is just waiting to be made!
Take a bath and read a Radiohead biography.

Think of which Spice Girl or Backstreet Boy each member would be. Jonny = Posh? They’ve both got the pout, you know.

Ways to Cheer Yourself Up With Radiohead
It’s been a tragically long time since I posted any ideas. What’s wrong with me? If all goes as I plan, I’ll be writing these posts every two weeks or so. Let me pimp myself out: Past Radiohead Cheer posts are here.
Burn a mixed CD of Radiohead tracks. Write “PICK ME UP” on the CD case. When no one is looking, drop it on the seat of a city bus, the subway, a school desk, a park bench…
Stop hugging people half-heartedly! Go in for a real one. Look at this hug Thom gives!
Read this list of Radiohead’s song titles. They’ve been altered to match the Christmas season. If you like puns and wordplay, this will be HYSTERICAL.
Fall asleep to “Atoms For Peace” and “House of Cards.” Put together a whole playlist of Radiohead tracks that’ll calm you.
Request Radiohead on your local college radio station.

Time for another one of these posts. I think more of us may need it, now that school is back in (or in my case, now that a quarter-life crisis is really doing me in). The previous lists are here for your inspiration and enjoyment. :D
Direct your own Meeting People Is Easy. With a digital camera, record shots of transportation areas, cars driving by, empty lots, and tall buildings. Score it with “Meeting People in the Aisle.”
Park your car at the side of a highway where you can see the sunset. Take out some snacks, sit in the trunk, and blast Radiohead from the stereo.
Buy red pants.
Do a striptease with “Paperbag Writer” as your musical accompaniment. Oooh, saucy.

Ask a salesclerk at the record store if they listen to Radiohead. You might make a new friend!

It continues. Because I enjoy sharing these so much. :) Check out past lists right here if you’re new to this.
Watch The Wizard of Oz while playing OK Computer. Supposedly, freaky stuff happens.
On a Saturday night in, set up speakers on a windowsill and blast Radiohead’s music. Everyone needs to hear them with you.
Be more adventurous with your appearance, and switch up your hair like Thom. Dye it peroxide blonde, cut Hail to the Thief-era style, colour it red, let it grow out again… You’ll feel like a slightly different person each time you change it. Don’t be afraid to experiment!
If you have a crush on one of the members, write him a love letter… which you’ll never send. This means you can declare your love like Mr. Darcy does for Elizabeth Bennett, and be uninhibited to the point of creepiness.
Take pictures of yourself doing these things.

Ways to Cheer Yourself Up With Radiohead
Nearly a month ago, I came up with ideas to cheer yourself up with Radiohead, while I was feeling pretty down myself. Corny and maybe lame to do this, but hey - Radiohead is good for the soul. Why not have them present in your life, besides just playing their music and looking at fansites? To the new followers - I occasionally post short lists of these ideas. I hope these lists help you get back on your feet when you’ve had a rough week. :) I mean it!
Write down your favourite Radiohead lyrics on post-it notes. Stick them on people’s vehicles, on doors, in fitting rooms, in library books, or all over your home. Here’s where I put a lyric.
Do a sad-off. What you do is get a friend to play you a sad song. You try to out-sad it with a Radiohead one. Debate what song is sadder.
On the morning of a day off and when you’re not too sleepy, open the curtains, let the sunshine in, and get back into bed. Listen to Radiohead’s brightest, most soothing tunes (“Gagging Order”? “I Am Citizen Insane”?).
Drive down a highway while blasting “The Bends”. It’s great for the highway!
Take unflattering pictures of yourself copying Ed’s creepy molester smile. Point of reference:

Part Three! My ideas as this weekend begins. Clickety-click here for my previous lists.

  • Fill up some wine glasses, and try to play a bit of a song with them. It’s easier if there’s only 3 or so notes you need to play.
  • Create a playlist that spells out your name with the first letter of the song title. Example: Mine could be Cuttooth, Hunting Bears, Reckoner, I Will, Stop Whispering, The Trickster, Airbag.
  • Feel classy by wearing a blazer, like Ed. Wear one even if you’re just puttering around at home. For some reason, it makes a difference to your mood.
  • Choreograph a silly dance to “Kid A.” One rule: It has to incorporate some of Thom’s hand-waving action like in this performance.

I’m doing the blazer one right now. :)

(More) Ways to Cheer Yourself Up With Radiohead
Last night I posted a small list of Ways to Cheer Yourself Up with Radiohead. Well, I came up with over 60 things as of now, so what I’m gonna do is post a few of them once or twice a week. I really love coming up with stuff. Feel free to reply to me with other ideas. We’re all friends here on Tumblr, are we not? Ah, I feel a lust for life again! Here’s another handful:
Dance to “Idioteque.” Naked.
At a music store, put the Radiohead albums on the front racks. Cover up those Miley Cyrus and Nickelback albums. This is real philanthropy.
Don’t let the lyrics “I’m not living, I’m just killing time” relate to your life anymore.
Get a photograph of the band properly developed at a photolab. Stick a stamp on it — now it’s a postcard! Send it to someone.
Be a 12-year-old girl and shamelessly kiss the band poster that’s on your wall.
I’m trying to make my life a little more exciting. Get off Tumblr and take some action, carpe diem and whatnot. I can get extremely apathetic, and forget that there’s more to do than worry about a job, school, and other trivial things. I’m already happier. I hope you have more zeal in your day too!
